R.Evolución Latina is offering Dance, Shakespeare and Vocal Ensemble classes as part of their 2012 Beyond Workshop Series. This organization uses arts education and programming to empower the Latino community to discover their full potential. This 4-week program challenges artists to further develop the technical skills of their craft while building self-confidence and critical leadership skills. It is led by a team of professional artists from the Broadway, film and television industries including Ian Hersey (The Public Theatre),William Wade (ImaginOcean), Gabriela Garcia (Chicago, the Musical), Alison Solomon (In the Heights), Michael Fielder (In the Heights), Daniel Fetecua-Soto (Jose Limón Dance Company), Rickey Tripp (In the Heights), Amanda Turner (RL Choreographers Festival), Michael Cusumano (Chicago the Musical), Valeria Cossu (Candela), Seth Stewart (In the Heights), Matthew Steffens (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown).
Founder and Artistic Director Luis Salgado says “We have gathered a great team of professionals who understands the mission and purpose of our organization. As we grow as an organization, we continue to expand this program. We are daring the Beyond Workshop Series to put the lessons they learn into action by giving back to their communities. Picture this: 60 artists heading to schools to share their passion and talent with hundreds of NYC kids; that is why we invest our time and energy in this program as we are focused on each individual’s growth and the improvement of our community”
“Although the program targets the Latino community, it is open to all artists and cultures,” says Hanley Smith (Adult Educational Program Coordinator). While past student, Tony Castellanos, adds, “RL has helped me in every aspect of my life, as an actor, as a person, as a family member. Everything I learned in the Shakespeare workshop and choir I can apply in my life. It has given me the courage to go beyond my wildest dreams. It has given me the tools and the confidence to pursue my acting. It has helped me to participate in our community and to give back to the community and in the end it has helped me be a better son and brother to my family. I can’t explain how it works but it works and I am proud to be a part of this amazing organization.”
